Our Galien River Kayak & Paddleboard rentals are perfect for beginners and experienced paddlers alike. The river is part of the “New Buffalo Marsh”, a rare undeveloped Great Lakes Marsh full of wildlife.
How does it work?
Arrive on site during open hours and rent whatever equipment you and your group would like. You’ll then paddle for an hour or more, upriver or down, and return to the same place you started when finished (see map below). The river is very mellow and slow moving so paddling upstream is easy, and there are a ton of nooks & crannies to explore. You can even paddle to new buffalo beach on Lake Michigan (3 miles & about 3-4 hours round-trip, depending on the group). It’s super easy and super fun!
Reservations for smaller groups are not necessary or accepted. For groups of 10 or more, please request a quick quote to set up a reservation. We can handle very large groups – up to 70 people! Get more info on large group outings here.
Where is it located?
Galien River Kayak & Paddleboard rentals are available at the public launch site 1.5 miles north of New Buffalo on Red Arrow Highway, just north of Galien River County Park.

What to bring?
Dress for the weather; come prepared to get a little wet from the drip of your paddle and be out in the sun. Lightweight, synthetic clothing is best. Sunglasses, sunblock, and a hat are a good idea. Your camera has a possibility of getting wet, so bring a waterproof bag. Sorry, no alcohol allowed!
