From Kalamazoo, St. Joseph is about 55 minutes via I-94 West, South Haven is about 45 minutes via I-196 West, and Saugatuck-Douglas is about 1 hour 15 minutes via US-131 North. From Grand Rapids, Saugatuck-Douglas is 45 minutes via I-196 South, South Haven is about 55 minutes, and St. Joseph is about 1.5 hours. Chicago is roughly 2 hours to South Haven, 2 hours 15 minutes to Saugatuck-Douglas, and 2.5 hours to St. Joseph via I-94.

All three destinations are reachable by Amtrak, making them a great car-free option from Chicago. The St. Joseph–Benton Harbor Station has direct service from Chicago and is just steps from downtown and Silver Beach. For Saugatuck-Douglas, Amtrak’s Pere Marquette line runs daily to Holland, Michigan — just a 20-minute drive away. South Haven doesn’t have a direct stop, but Kalamazoo is served daily by Amtrak’s Wolverine and Blue Water lines — just 45 minutes from South Haven. From any station, rideshare or local car service gets you the rest of the way with ease.
